Faith Versus Fear Part 2 By Carol Strong
I hope the last story in our first series on Fear vs Faith has helped you. This story is short; but still I wanted to share it with you.
I took Spanish as a requirement in the spring semester. Unfortunately, because I was not feeling well often, and the turmoil with my dad, I wasn’t able to devote much time to my studying. The course was very in depth; it involved watching a 30-minute video, working in a text book, and working in a workbook. To say the least, the course was very time consuming. To add to my stress, I was enrolled in another course as well. I was so upset, I received a 50 on one of my online Spanish quizzes.
I was so frustrated and upset. I was thankful at the end of our semester; we could do a project for extra credit, and if we did two projects one of them could be counted as a quiz grade. My daughter helped me study for the mid final, and I did well.
I decided to turn in the project on our college’s Cinco de Mayo day celebration. They had a lot of food and displayed a variety of arts and crafts from Mexico. After I filled my plate, I walked over and sat down. An older man who had a loaded plate, sat down next to me. We began talking; and he told me he was a tutor for Spanish! He began to tell me that there are certain tricks to learn Spanish. I asked him if he had time to tutor me, unfortunately his schedule was booked. It was already midweek; I had plan to study sooner. However, I needed to work on my Dual Language Learner powerpoint and presentation for the Emergent Reading Course I was taken.
Well always before I took a test I prayed to the Lord to send his help from the sanctuary, many times on my knees. I would ask for his wisdom, knowledge, and strength to take the quizzes or tests. I was so thankful that many of my online friends were praying for me as well. This time I began to write down information to help me study. I was quizzing myself. Suddenly, I noticed some patterns in some of the words. I was beginning to see what the old man was talking about! I was so amazed and happy. I was hopeful too. Again, I was studying and praying a lot. My confidence grew; I knew with God on my side, I could pass this final. I did very well; I got a B and with my extra credit it was changed to an A! My final grade was a B. I was so thankful that God positioned this old man next to me at the college that day.
Again, if you are struggling with something; never underestimate the power of God. Don’t dwell in the pit of defeat. Rise up children, and see the goodness of our heavenly father. Call to him and he will answer.
Here are some scriptures that I found about God’s presence and the reassurance that he is moving in our lives:
At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do”.
I am with you and I will watch over you wherever you go…
The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered… When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did…
By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light…
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today… The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
“I will rain down bread from heaven for you…
See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared…
The Lord replied, “My presence will go with you, and I give you rest.”
For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous…
I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
(I encourage you to read this whole psalm)
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
Your love, O Lord reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
You guide me with your counsel…
Psalm 103: 4-5
…who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.
Scripture on God hears and answers our prayers.
Exodus 15: 25
Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it, and the water became sweet.
You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.
… and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you…
Psalm 55: 22
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
God bless you brother and sisters. I leave you this blessing form Numbers 6.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Until next time, Enjoy your journey
